Hi all.

I just picked up a set of Dunlop wheels with very old tyres on, which obviously are shot.

The tyres though don't really have a tyre size in the way we do now, and I will be looking to replace them with a modern equivalent.

The tyres are Avon 5.9s10 mini GT wide safety's. I believe these were the dogs back in the day.

Could someone tell me the correct tyre sizes to replace them with.(wide as possible). Ta.

Replace with 165/70 x 10.

The Avons are 5-90 x 10 cross-ply. Standard cross ply size with 3.5" wheels was 5-20 x 10.

Back in the 60's those Avons were OK, especially for smooth track use, but on the road the Dunlops or Goodyears were better overall. When the Goodyear 165/70 x 10 HR Rally Specials arrived they were superb. Dunlop offered the SP Super 165/70 x 10 which was also great.
