Hi, I've been 'lurking' this forum for a while now and finally decided to join, more of a reader than a poster hence not joining up.

Recently (January) bought my first car, a 1985 Mini Mayfair. Bought from Paul Higgs Mini's, great company, would recommend them to anyone looking to buy a mini. Originally wanted a mini that required little to no work, since I have no mechanical knowledge, although as summer is approaching and  I will be away from university I have decided i'd like to carry out small repairs, e.g small bits of rust that bother me, and slightly 'restore' (using the word very loosely) the vehicle.

Recently purchased the Haynes Mini manual and restoration guide online (yet to be delivered) in order to learn how to carry out necessary work and decided to join up here due to all the information and knowledgeable posters.

Another reason for joining up is technical help from others, recently my indicator stalk controlling the headlights has broken? Previously the stalk would stick on the full beam setting when pushed on, now it won't stay in position and has to be physically held to stay on full beam, also when driving over small bumps in the road full beam can sometimes flash on and off, which can be mistaken as 'flashing' people. I need to sort this problem out ASAP, although hesitant to spend £35 on a new stalk if there's a simple quick fix.

Blackened the number plate for privacy, picture is one of the advertisement images from the dealer, as all my pictures aren't of the same standard.

Looking forward to meeting you all, thanks in advance for any help and advice!  :proud:

Cool car :) stalk is easy enough to remove to have a closer look first.  The thing about minis is they are simple so be brave and dive in. Take bits off and see how they work.. Dont be afraid of doing it wrong.  It does sound like a dodgy stalk so try ebay for a second hand one.  Better still Himley hall mini show tomorrow :)  Other than that strip it down, clean it up and hope for the best :)

Thanks for the advice, funny thing is, i'm so inexperienced with mini's that i don't know how to take the stalk off, do i need to take the steering column off or is there a easier way? I did have my dad try to help who is somewhat experienced when it comes to vehicles although he couldn't do it either :/ Sorry if i sound a complete idiot.  :(
