I am currently progressing through my Mini project have and have come to the dashboard. All I need now is some new instrument gauges. I have to space for 80mm gauges. I have found a few but way out of price range at around £200, can anyone help me find a cheap option, I want a speedo and the other to contain fuel and tempiture if possible. Any ideas please?

Get to some autojumbles. There are usually loads about. eBay could also be good. Just make sure you can get the the speedo to fit cable wise and be aware that it may need re calibrating.

There is more to selecting a speedometer than just that the cable fits... at least if you are on a budget.

The speedometer will be calibrated for a certain number of cable turns per mile (TPM).  The calibration is matched to a car's wheel/tire size and the final drive of the gearbox.  If you do not have a TPM value that matches the gearing in the car the speedometer and odometer will not read correctly.  People will tell you it is an easy thing to recalibrate the speedometer.  That's true.  However, if you want the odometer to read correctly, that involves changing gearing inside the gauge and is going to cost more, a lot more.  An alternative is to fit a ratio box between the gearbox and speedometer.  The ratio box is an inline gearbox that converts your car's cable TPM to the necessary gauge TPM so the speedometer and odometer read accurately.  In the U.S. they cost around $100.  I do not know how in the U.K. makes them.  I would include the cost of gauge calibration and/or the ratio box in your budget when buying for your project car.

over this side of the pond there are a couple of places that do the full job for a very reasonable sum of money. I would hazard a bet its considerably cheaper than any inline gearbox. My last one cost me £60 all in, it was for a motorbike but I think the prices are the same for car ones.

OP- have you looked at digitalspeedos website? They are probably one of the cheapest on the market at the moment for new stuff.

60 GBP for re-gearing an odometer?  That is an excellent deal.  If you still have the contact information for the vendor who did the work I am sure it would be very helpful to the OP.

It's gone up to £65 since I had mine done, but still a good price I think.
