Hey, a little question :

you can buy dizzy's online without a vacuum advance (they usually blank the hole where the vacuum pump sits)

can you fit a vacuum pump to it? Is it as easy as just putting your old one on it? Or is it more complex?

grtz!

Little more complex.. Typically a dizzy has a set mechanical advance curve and a vacuum curve.

You can buy one that has a given curve and add a vacuum but that might not be what you engine needs.

Perhaps another question about what you set up needs?

Distributors that are available online without Vacuum Advance Units are not really suitable for any car thats driven on the road, the reasons for this are that while on a light throttle thee mixture will be leaner than under power and a weak mixture needs more advance, The effects of a road car without Vacuum Advance will be a loss of MPG and a reduction of torque and driveability. If you have a distributor without one, give the Distributor Doctor a ring he will have vacuum units

The centrifugal advance works on the spindle to advance/retard the cam that opens the points. Vacuum advance moves the baseplate that the points are screwed to. If you have, or can fit, a moving baseplate you can have vac advance.
