Hi all, i'm new at this Forum and I've got a problem with my  MPI year 1998.

I also have Innocenti 1300 from 1972 and that is easy job compering to MPI stuff. Way to much electronic, wires, sensors etc.

I'm looking for help with my MPI.

Cooper has developed a knock when the throttle is opened. This knock souns harsh and metallic and i can't identify where it is coming from. My guess is from behinde throttle body or from left side (around stepper motor or Throttle position sensor, just a guess)

Please, check the video with sound at

and

There is also overheating issue time after time, and spark plugs are to light coloured - white almost, and that means lean mixture ....

Please, put some advice before i go to Diagostic Centre.

Thank you very much

Hi,

I'm not definitely saying it is, but that sound coupled with overheating issues, points towards a blown head gasket between 2 cylinders.

Would be worth a compression test before doing anything else, this will at least tell you one way or another what's going on.

Expect to find lower compression on two adjacent cylinders considering the sound the engine is making when opening the throttle.

Cheers, Steve.

EDIT: I've just been reading about Cooperman's Grandsons Mini which sounds like it had the same problem as yours...and it didn't end happily.

Hi Stevie W,

thank you for replay. In my case it was just stupid exhaust downpipe gasket.

I'm so glad that problem is solved.

Cheers,Tito
