Looking at doing the conversion with a SC kit (will be buying their guide this week) just wondering if anyone has done this to an MPI?!

my mates doing it at the moment, quite an involved engineering exercise but perfectly doable, useful if you have access to a machine shop.

no not cheap!!

the sc kit makes it simpler but does cost, you can do it cheaper with just their basic kit or the force racing kit and a bit more engineering and sourcing parts carefully

Yeah I'm going to take my time doing it, I'm nearly 20 so insurance won't be possible until at least 21 so sourcing stuff is possible as no time frame!!! Going to speak to SC soon about it weigh up my options of just normal 1380 or twin cam!

Im doing it, Currently ive collected the head and a donor engine, using the g/box of my mpi. Advantage of using an older block is you are tested in Mot for higher emissions reading.

Im also 20 and I will tell you straight it costs alot, ive had it planned on a spreadsheet working out costs etc everything from the head to tubes of sealant for gaskets. Always something that will add up. Until you have it all written its hard to estimate what the cost is.

If things go to plan I will be placing an order with MED in the next month for pistons, crank, stg 2 clutch kit and few other bits.

If you plan it and buy certain parts together you can save a few £ in the long run.

I wasnt aware of that with the block! ive already got my other mpi block unfortunately! how are you planning on dealing with the bonnet? are you going to have to have a bulge?

There was a build thread of someone who had done it to a mpi before and from memory he managed to get it under without any problems.

From my reading I understand you can get around it a few ways.

1. Run an automatic subframe, I believe the engine sits lower in the frame.

2. Use a single skin Fibreglass bonnet

3. Cut the under bonnet bracing. thought this method would be a trial and error method.

Another option would be to make your own mounts and drop the engine down. tough im sure other issues will be encountered but this.

Are you aware if using a mpi block you need to machine a hole in the back of it to fit a oil return, in a carb block there is a mechanical fuel pump that is bolted to it, mpi's dont have it.

We may be able to help each other out mate, information and research is key on a build like this. im sure one of us will have read somewhere

Couple of pics of the machining I did for my mates, this is an MPI block being machined for the SC oil return breather manifold.
