tell u what, today was a scary day! driving to the train station as i do every morning, making the usual left and right hand turns as u do until i went to do a left and it didnt go left!
it went straight!!
i also felt the carpet move under my feet and it stopped me pressing the clutch!!
turns out the stupid skinny carpet in my mini, along with the stupid overmats got tangled in the steering column and got chewed up around the nut and bolt at the bottom, so everytime i turned it reeled more and more in!! along with the overmat!
the carpet moved about 3 inches from where it should be and gathered under the clutch pedal, hence no clutch and why the steering column would turn!!
to solve the problem i threw the overmat out of the window under a bridge in a fit of rage and am contemplating burning the whole car!!!
couldnt help thinking "imagine if that driveway weren't there!"
so just wondered, has this ever happened to anyone else?? and should the carpet sit under the nut and bolt or clip on the steering column or on top of it, gotta try and rectify it now without spending £110 on new carpets!

yeah but it was a seriously close call no steering is probably the worst thing that can happend when ur trying to navigate a bend!
surely they should design these carpets so that they dont get tangled up!

Dude that is first of all harsh and second of all kind of funny, I can just imagine someone passing by witnessing a set of carpets being ejected from a me with the accompanied swearing of a very upset person....... doesn't happen everyday im guessing.
On a more helpful note, i used heavy duty double sided tape to hold my carpets down, then the over carpets are cheap halfords ones, these aren't taped, but the steering column has worn a hole..... you can get clips which you push though the carpet, i'll try and find a photo i have in a magazine somewhere....
Oh burning the car, they smell real bad and make a big mess on the floor..... at this point i would like to say i had nothing to do with it..... i caught fire all by itself

yeah it probably was funny for the person behind, must admit i was chuckling a bit myself, ive kept these mats solely because theyre the only ones i have, i cant find any anwhere that fit but dont have a picture of a cartoon mini on, to be honest i just want some plain black ones, no pictures or coloured beading, but noone does them!
still tempted to set the damn thing on fire!

Halfords do plain black one, they may sell the carpet clips as well....... from what i remeber they do some really nice one..... very flamable....... but hey why not bring the car to the drag wars show and we could have a back up BBQ? hmmmmm burning rubber and those new floor mats add a real smokey taste.....

it happened to me about 2 days after I passed my test. just about soiled myself! luckily there was a junction onto a side road so i yanked it round that and just turned the key off. i cut a dirty great hole round the column and spray glued it all down so it cant shift.

another stupid price is the newton commercial van and pickup carpet sets in the minisport catalogue - saloon=104.95
van and pickup=117.95.
now is it me or is there less floor area in a van, being as it only has 2 seats?

There is your answer right there, the words "van and pick up" must mean people are willing pay more.... I think not..... i got a saloon set from somewhere cheap and cut them to fit.... not pretty but hey the rest of the car ain't right now
