Hi guys,
I've been in the process of stripping my gearbox after finding a load of ground up gasket sealant hiding behind one end of the lay gear thrust washers.
I've checked the baulk ring gaps and the smallest gap is 0.035". Most rings fitted this blade in with room to spare. Is this gap big enough without buying new ones? If it is, am I okay to change them over so the biggest gap goes on the most vulnerable gear? Is there an order of "vulnerable" gears or is just 2nd gear?
Also each of my baulk rings have red paint on the lugs, does this mean anything?
Finally, I'm replacing my diff with a 4 pinion cross pin type. I've tried to remove the existing bearing from the side that needs to be swapped over onto the new diff but it isn't coming off easily. My mechanic friend said that they both should be replaced. I was able to remove the outer part of the bearing and take the ball bearings out and they looked fine, both are RHP ones too. But I'm unsure on whether they need to be replaced at all? If I'm okay reusing them how are people removing them without damage?
Sorry about the many questions.
Thanks in advance,
Ian
