So for £1,011 I bough a 1990 Mini Cooper 1275 from leisure assets at goodwood race track,
Bog standard except for the hydraulic handbrake which when used could shoot you through the windscreen.she was registered sorn in 2002 and didn't leave the goodwood grounds till I picked her up 2 months ago.the whole car is original, usual bits of rust and paint chip, plus the 2 ton of Tarmac stuck to the underside, plans are respray and welding but other than that I'm lost,so many avenues but which to explore

Well I'm taking arrest from the tar that is still in the arches, like I said I could fill the boot up on my mini TWICE with the amount or tar underneath it and there is still more To go.
Today I decided to start sanding her down ready for spray,I started by removing rear windows (screwed out lovely) then the back window which was easy as I decided to cut the rubber.iv never removed a fuel tank before,I was surprised how simple it was until I looked down at how much petrol had gone all over myself and the floor.im sanding with 200 course then 400.800 etc to smooth it out.found a few wholes in the boot so ordered new replacement panels for their. new to the whole restoration business so please bare with meAttached File  image.jpg   32.23K   2 downloadsAttached File  image.jpg   35.04K   0 downloadsAttached File  image.jpg   50.25K   1 downloadsAttached File  image.jpg   34.65K   2 downloadsAttached File  image.jpg   33.02K   1 downloadsAttached File  image.jpg   19.71K   3 downloadsAttached File  image.jpg   33.47K   1 downloadsAttached File  image.jpg   35.62K   1 downloadsAttached File  image.jpg   30.76K   0 downloads

so a month or 2 down the line and the welding is well under way,iv had to replace all but one of the subframe mountings, dropped the subframe and given that a fresh lick of paint, new shocks and overhaul on the drums.

at the moment i am cleaning the underside ready for spray and rust protection.its getting hard to tell the difference between tar and underseal. Whoever done the under seal was either extremely thick or was stitching up the next owner, the brake lines and petrol lines were painted in under seal. the subframe was actually welded onto the mountings so that had to be cut out. also the inside of the rear valance was full of fibreglass filler im still looking for a genius to tell me why as there is no hole or rust in the areas :s

oh forgot the hole on the passenger rear wheel arch was covered with newspaper, filler on the inside and fibreglass on the outside and painted over with under seal only found it as i was going around gently tapping the shell with a hammer and the hole opened up with 1 gentle tap
