I was out driving last night, had a great countryside blast.

It was first time I have turned on the blowers to try and get some air, Is it supposed to to be hot when the leaver is pulled out and cool when pushed in? I seem to get warm all the time, is this normal?

Thinking of one of those 12v cooler units for top of dash now.

Thanks

all minis seem to be different mine is pull out for hot push in for cold. The valve that moves when you push or pull might be stuck open which is why it is hot all the time so you might want to clean it then try again :)

it is a valve under the bonnet that goes between the hose which comes from the heater. It will have a cable attached to it which pulls a leaver. Check this hasn't snapped or missing.

Take a look at which heater tap you have installed.

The type which is fixed to the head = Pull out the Knob to Close the valve.

I believe the other type (Inline type, normally mounted near the carb in the heater pipe) work the other way.

With the head mounted type, it can be quite common for the internal "Bung" thing to come away so that pulling the valve closed doesnt actually do anything.

Ive also heard that its best to leave it open all the time to help the water circulate around the cylinders on the flywheel end of the engine. Mines always open, i just shut the vent on the heater and open the Drivers fresh air vent when i dont want warm air in the car.

As everyone else mentioned, the later type mounted inline is pull for hot.
But you must remember that all this does is stop flow to the heater matrix if you try and get cold, it will actually take a while for it to cool down and actually blow cold.

Is it possible for anyone to show me an image of where I should be looking? I have attached these of mine (not sure if they'll help)

That hose on the far right of your top picture is the heater hose, there should be a black thing with a cable attached to it.

you are looking for something like this

http://www.minispare...|Back to search

think it is just out of shot in your photo but you can see the cable leading to it - right hand bottom corner of photo. it appears to be not connected properly. the clip should be gripping the black outer sheath  firmly to hold it steady. and the inner cable needs properly attaching, unless the outer sheath is secured then the cable wont operate the valve.

you will probably find the valve has seized open and may need repairing or replacing
