Hi all,

Did a oil change and oil filter change today and oil is very slowly dripping out of the oil filter when running ?

I fill the oil filter up which I normally don't do, it says it has full oil on the dipstick ?

I've done it up as tight as I can by hand,

Will it settle out you think or does it need to be on tighter somehow ?

Cheers all :)

Did you smear some oil on the seal before doing it up? Sounds like the seals damaged perhaps

Did you smear the rubber seal on top of the filter with engine oil?

Do it a tad tighter with an oil filter tool and it will probably solve your problem.

I've had two faulty filters in a row on my ford van, the edge wasn't crimped properly, absolute mess of the underside of the van and the lane near my house! Both times they were genuine ford (motorcraft?) ones, replaced with fram ones.

Yeah I smeared the rubber of the oil filter and filled it up 3/4,

I have a oil chain tool but it's quite lethal but will try tightening it further :)

Will let you know guys and thanks :)

Put a bit of rag around the filter if you use a chain type.

Something is wrong if it needs a tool to tighten it to stop it leaking, faulty filter or bad mating surface.

Ok I won't tighten it lol, annoying about the filter, maybe I can try and taking it off and try putting it back on, means I got to drain the oil again lol :(

You dont need to drain the oil, buy a new filter(Fram or Ufi are good) smear the rubber with old oil

You will loose a small amount of oil but as stated the oil sits in the gearbox

Just remember smear of oil on the seal and after initial contact about half to 3/4 of a turn should be fine to seal it to the filter housing
