Reverse lights are not compulsory fog lights are after a curtain date. I think its some time in 1980. Most been seems to fit ones that hang under the rear bumper

Not very accurate. Reverse lamp isn't required at all, whereas you need a foglp no if your car was registered after a certain date.You dont need either!

You defo should have a fog light on a 92. I like I said the cut off is around 1980

This is what I'm doing, looks great IMO.
Technically, you're not allowed to use them as reverse lamps as they are above the maximum wattage, but if you put a switch on it, you can just call it a work lamp.

I was under the assumption that's what most people did with the boot lamp using it as a reverse light

To clear it up this is from the MOT testers manual
This inspection applies to the one rear fog lamp which is required to be fitted to the centre or offside of vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1980
When I fitted Mk2 lights to my Sprite I put a reverse lamp on the left and a fog on the right under the bumper.
