Just thinking of these for my newly upgraded headlights, are they legal though?

Thanks

The law is bases on wattage, I think 55 is the maximum, stuff like this I just saw to do it, then if/when you get pulled over or time for the mot just swap them for ones you know are legal! :)

There is no check in the MOT manual for bulbs as such other than to check they are not falling out, MOT manuals are available free here:-

As long as you are not dazzling every-one you should be OK.

No.  LED light is very directional, unlike halogen bulbs.  They need specific lights and these arent available for Minis.  Get yourself some Osram Night-breakers and be done with it.

Based on the 310 Lumen output they state in the specs I doubt they'll be as bright as a standard H4 55/60 watt which is rated around 700/1200 lumen depending on what source you believe. They will look "whiter" than standard H4 bulbs but not really "brighter"

My polo came with LED sidelights for some reason, and they're very bad. Can't see them until it's really dark, and they don't reflect in the bowls much at all. I would definitely not have them as main driving lights!

They are, but are about £500 per pair.

These lamps aren't legal no, because your headlights are only approved to be used with a filament bulb regardless of the power output. As said the output pattern of these will be all over the place and so they will make a mess of the beam pattern, and I have to agree they probably won't be bright enough.

Use Osram Nightbreakers, they're probably the best bulbs you can get.

Those LEDs, are not only illegal, but are probably very inefficient. They are also very cheap which makes me wonder whether the quality is really up to it.
