What's the gain out of engine breather set ups
I'm not to sure on the just plonk a filter on the breather to me I think there abit restrictive

I was thinking of oil catch tank with a filter

What should I do

I have the breather on crank case and on timing cover

I like the way Swiftune fit there systems with a catch tank

Pipes going to a catch tank with a breather is just as restrictive, personally I prefer plumbing it into the inlet

To get past local inspections for the construction of my mini marcos, I needed to have a PCV system. That was the one and only emissions related requirement. Since I have a weber 45, I got a pcv valve from a local parts store (I think it's basically just a check valve), and drilled a hole in the bottom plate of the weber air box. It was enough to pass inspections, and I believe it does work to some degree. I will be working on a more elegant long-term solution, but haven't decided exactly what that is.

I think you'll find it's a MoT test fail, it's certainly contrary to C & U regs.

Well unless your mini is fitted with a perkins 6372 DOT 4 engine :-)

Ya  up to you - it's an MoT fail probably, certainly contrary to C&U.

Try telling a biker "I'm nuts" when he drops his pride and joy because of your childishness, or perhaps it's not childishness but rather stupidity?

If his mini is putting enough oil out to down a biker, then maybe he has more serious things to worry about... plus tell that biker to never set tyre near a fuel station as they are undoutably more contaminated than the average road

I really wasnt trying to be funny, even in my car with more than double the contact patch I feel its much more slippy near a fuel station, especially in the wet!

An oil leak is something to worry about, but how many cars drive around with these? Its not like the engine breather is spewing out any significent amount compaired to some minis with their rod seal merrily dripping away

Also, at the very least, I'd put a filter on there -- I wouldn't want anything going _in_ those breathers, too.

I wonder why the C&U regs agree that no motor vehicle except those equiped with the DoT 4 engine may use an open breather system?

Actually my comment was more addressed at the post that thought "i'm nuts" was a sensible reply. I'm sincerely hope he gets a copper on a bad day and gets nicked.

I agree many cars drip oil - but let's be honest now that many british buckets are off the road this is less and less frequent..

My ZX10 knocks out about 180HP - try hitting oil on that in the wet, it gets entertaining. Its bad enough if that oil is on the ground because of an accidental leak, but if you've got some twit that thinks it's funny...... ya well.

Comments like that are a good enough reason to see that car repairs and modifications are fully regulated. :-)

Iv seen 2 catch tanks which I like

1 is a normal tank with 2 inlets but no breather filter

The other one is pretty pain and boring with a filter

Does a catch tank need a filter
