The bolt sits in a metal sleeve that runs inside the bushes, the bolt get seized up over time.

Get a hacksaw in and cut the bolt head off and then plug gas it /wd40 and use a punch to knock it through.

If you cannot get a hacksaw in, can be difficult because of the lip on the top bracket, try drilling with increasing size drills to remove the bolt head or grind off if you have something like a small dremmel type tool, when you reassemble with a new bolt liberally coate with copper slip grease.

To compound this, on EARLY cars like mine, that top connection at the bulkhead does not have a sleeve and bolt like the later cars.  Early models had a strange 1-piece part threaded on both ends with a larger diameter middle.  The only way to remove them was to unbolt the bracket from the bulkhead once you got both nuts off.  Hopefully this is not what you are dealing with.

Do this any you are probably going to pop the spotwelds that hold the lower halk of the bracket off the bulkhead.

Unless you unbolt the master cylinders and remove the upper half of the bracket, two cuts are usually required though the bolts - above and below the bush - to allow it to slide out forwards.

Good point, the lower bracket is quite fragile and a real pain to replace.

thanks for help.. yes had to dremel and drill bolt head off. bolt was still seized solid in the inner sleeve bush so had to drill all the way through bolt to allow removal of the brace from the bulkhead bracket

I have struggled, cutting the bolt out myself on other cars.  I was just wondering if a puller tool for wiper arms could be used:

If the "feet" of the tool could be wedged under the plate (should be enough give in the rubber bush below),  then the bolt of the tool would effectively push the remainder of the bolt out?

Ryan.

Nice idea, but I rather suspect that the forces involved would be far far grater than the tool is designed for.

I think the feet on the LH one would snap off.
