Looking at it, I think that main shaft has stood still for a couple of years in a gearbox with no oil in it. Anyone else see where I'm coming from?

Look at july's Miniworld for an article on the A+ gearbox.
Your article on the MPI gearbox? If so the reason i stripped the box as it was sat on the side so thought ill get on with it
cars offical mileage is 60,000 miles.
I see what you mean for no oil engine wasn't in great condition either, hence a full rebuild of engine and box,
