I am currently rebuilding a pair of HS4 carbs. Does anyone know how you change the throttle shaft bearings?

Is this a job you can do at home?

Does anyone know anyone in Milton Keynes or near there that could do it and any ideas on what it would cost?

Do you mean the steel bush inserts either side that the butterfly shaft goes through?

I think they need pressing in but you need to be careful getting the old ones out ..... I think from memory ac Dodd on here can provide such a service....:0)

Knock them out, then you will need to ream the hole to 9.55mm (i think) and then press in the new ones.  Could always pop the bush in the freezer and warm up the carb body, may make pressing the new ones in a little easier.

Don't they have to be line reamed after fitting too?

Whoa there!!

The original bushes are cast in. Therefore they need to be drilled out by line drilling to 9.2mm. Then this hole needs to be line reamed to 9.5mm. Then the new bushes can  be inserted.

The replacement bushes are not brass they are steel backed non brass split bearing.

Yes I do carry out this work. £25 for 1 carb or £45 for 2 plus return postage.
