I have begun to rebuild my mini ( thread coming soon)

but looking at the moment while iwait for the spacie n the workshop, i was thinking  of a few engines mods whilst its out. I was wondering about skimming the head as a place near me can do it a very good price. I can't really afford to find a decent 1275 and would rather put that money into the bodywork.

So, is there anything i should look out for or a certain thou i should skim it by?

also are there any other decent mods i should go for? I will be either putting on a maniflow or lcb mainfold with at most a 2" bore single exit exhuast.

Thanks

What's your current compression ratio ? Simply skimming the head is unlikely to give you any significant power increase unless it's currently very low. A 2" exhaust on a 998 will lose you power, something like an RC40 or one of the small bore systems Maniflow do will be much more suitable .

What head do you have now?

What mods do you have already?

If you are getting an exhaust manifold you may as well buy a whole Stage 1 kit while you are at it

If the engine is coming out and resources are limited I would suggest new timing gear and set it up properly and a stage one kit. Then for not a lot more I would give the head a good clean up/ decoke and reseat the valves. I couldn't resist a light skim and tickling the ports though if it were a standard head ;)

Yeah ill get back to you all on that information as my mini isnt at home but an hours drive away so once im back up there ill have a look but is a 1986 A+ engine, standard mainfold, hs4 carb. it has a larger exit exhaust, as in my youth 3 years ago i thought it was a good idea... it does have electronic points instead though as i had many issues with the ignition and the rain.

I think its pretty much standard... bu i only have a budget of about 1500 to rebuild this and i already need two doors, A panels, and a front end...and thats just from the rust and damage i can see.

Cheers

Blimey. No money for engine mods after all that work then!
