Hi all,
Sadly the mini has had an injection of rust to the windscreen surround as well as other places. I was just wondering if anyone has replaced a complete windscreen surround before and if so how difficut is it?

Also I was wondering what you thought it could be worth (im in 2 minds at the moment- Rebuild or Sell). Its a 95' Cooper Spi with 58k and some history, since I bought it last september it has been regularly serviced and has had Adjusta-rides, adjustable shocks, Stainless single box RC40 complete exhaust system incl. LCB manifold, Negative camber bottom arms, quick shift, Grp2 arches.

Looks good in those pics
(cant see how bad the rust is, or any rust for that matter),
I could just be surface in which case you could remove the screen and sand it all back and then i might need a little filler to neaten it up,
but if you sell unless your going to buy a different car then another mini is likely to have rust anyway,
so you may as well sort the one you have out
(as you could lose money selling it and buying a different one).

Mine is suffering from the dreaded tin worm along the bottom of the windscreen. I was talking to a local Mini expert, and he said as long as its localized, the offending section can be cut out, and a new piece welded in, fillered up and resprayed.

The rust is more than surface (its holey rust), too far gone to sand
back its either cut and weld new piece or buy complete surround. I
just wondered how difficult this would be and how much if a bodyshop
was to do it?

Just need to look at my project on a 95 mini to see what may be in store.

I say rebuild. Selling it and buying another is false economy IMHO, as unless the next one you buy has already been rebuilt or is mint to start, its going be in much the same condition or worse. If it has been rebuilt or mint, its going to have a mega price tag.

Reshelling is an option but recon on 4000 for it ready to build, that includes a propper paint job.

MMM, mine was not to that extent, but you will never be able to tell the true extent till you get the window out, but that looks like its going to be the dash rail and the scuttle, the seam the window rubber sits on may well be rust rather than metal.

As to how easy it will be depends on how well you can weld, how long you have to do it and how far the rust has gone into the scuttle and its closing panel.

possibly the upper bulkhead from the looks of that too (but thats area is just "flat" so a repair can be made up easily enough). not good, but if you can do it yourself, then a ton for the panels and a bit more for paint. At a shop.... I dread to think.

Either way, if you sell it, then the prospective buyer should knock a shed load off his offer after seeing how far it goes. Fix it (would be my reccomendation). you know you want to...... :(

1300 plus the cost of reskinned doors, a panels, boot floor repaired, rear valance and other bits it soon adds up doesnt it. Its 2750 all in for a band new defo no rust sportspack shell plus painting but my mate is a sprayer (he cant weld very well tho) so should be cheap for spraying. Im stuck its either repair body, find decent second hand shell or save and save for new shell. All these decisions.
