Ive begun stripping my 1990 City E, and have found the usual corrosion, however the floor, the boot floor and inner section of the heel board are suprisingly in very good condition. While cleaning off the floor Ive removed a light brown / dark yellow resin type material which was around 1mm thick and chipped off fairly easy. It was a little bit waxy, but was hard resin if that makes sense. It left the topcoat showing once removed, and it was overcoated with a standard black underseal. Im curious what it is as it seems to have protected the areas it was applied to very well. Does anyone know what this product might be ?

under seal /stone chip is usually paint based and can feel rubbery but not resiny. Ive never seen it in person so dont know what its like but it could be zeibart? (probably spelt wrong) I think it was offered as a factory option and every car that seems to have had it has survived far better than those without.

It sounds like it may have been ziebarted from new. My clubby has a similar coating although black.

If you strip this off to check for any rust then I would be inclined to use stonechip followed by topcoat.
