finished welding the floor to the bulkhead, its not perfect and to be honest i struggled with it but its done now , just needs some more seam welding to the underside which i can do later....

DSC00946_zps7u70ran5.jpg

chopped off the bits of the c pillars i dont need , and started to clean up where it was welded to the parcel shelf.

DSC00949_zpstzezn0d1.jpg

this is what was left of the inner c pillar brackets that hold the seat belt mount , i was just going to leave these on but decided to take them off and im glad i did.

DSC00950_zpsvzhsusff.jpg

as there was rust under them.

DSC00951_zpsub5y1jzw.jpg

and the rust cleaned off back to bare metal and zinc primed, still need work yet but getting there.....

Your attention to detail suggests this is going to be an amazing car when finished.
You seem to have got good results with a plating kit - the one I bought didn't produce good results at all and then I found an excellent(cheap)local platers who have done all my fixings and parts for less than the cost of the plating kit. I just cleaned everything in Deox C before taking the partsd to them.
keep up the good work,
JohnR

Thanks JohnR,

yes i seem to get good results with the plating , it takes time to do though the prep work is immense, if people think you just dunk it in a tank they are mistaken lol.

one thing that did come while i was away was my custom steering bracket from Matt at fusion Fabrications made from 3mm stainless, tigged together and polished.

fitted to the steering column

appologies for the crap photos , using a different camera as mine is off for repair.

so did some more work on the rear panel, rubbed it all down to bare steel and coated it in zinc primer , and welded up the many holes on the parcel shelf . its getting there but still needs alot of work in my eyes.

pulled these off the old shell as you dont get them on the new bulkhead, wired wheeled them and left to soak in vinegar overnight, hit them with some zinc spray, and filled the inside box section with zinc primer, wanted to soak it in paint so it ran onto all gaps...

plug welded them on as the top ones are plugged on.

and zinc over the top

anyone any thoughts on how the inner wing fits ? does it look right? feel free to speak up lol

managed to source a 1275 turbo crank at the weekend, very good condition ends , just needs a grind to the next size.

better than paying £300 for a new one , would have used mine but the taper was completely knackered ....

I had exactly the same problem with my inner wing.

it wouldn't fit nicely to the floor so i had to perform surgery.

the saga of the inner wing continues.....

what to do with these holes, i dont want or need them, but if i weld them up i dont want to warp the panel ,

id like it to look as if they were not there at all.....

i dont want to weld the panel on till these are sorted as i can move the panel around at the mo.

For the hole at the front of the inner wing, i would use a hammer and dolly to flatten the return lip and then use a piece of cereal box held against it to draw round to get a template, cut out of steel and then tack it in place.

Use pulse welding leaving time to cool as you go and you won't warp it.

As for the other one towards the back, it will be a little trickier to flatten out the return lip so you could cut a circle of steel to fit in the hole and carefully weld it in from the outside and then grind the return lip off with a flap disc or something.

Just make sure you weld slowly and allow plenty of time to cool and it will be great. I use a wet rag to quench the welds to speed the process up.
