Hi anyone give me some advice on how free or tight a new (from Mini Spares) swivel joint should be ?

I've spent hours trying to get them moving without binding top ones seem to move fairly free but occasionally catch and the bottom ones move with a little more force due too the spring not helping.

If they are catching occasionally they need lapping in, which is something that should be done as a matter of course. If you are not sure, you need some grinding compound the same as you would use for lapping in valve seats, smear some on the ball joint pin and rotate in the cup until the surface of the pin is an even lightish grey colour, thoroughly clean the paste from the pin and cup then re-shim.the pin should be firm but not tight and move smoothly.
