
Manually Turning Over An Engine

Engine in or out the car? You can manually turn it over using a socket or ring spanner on the big pulley bolt on the radiator side of the engine. Or put the car in gear and roll it / rock it if setting rocker and or points gap.

Are you try to actually start it manually so it runs? Push starting it could work if thats your aim?

jack up one side put in gear turn wheel by hand how I do tappets

In which case spanner on the crank pulley, but you wont get much idea of what condition the engine is, other than not seized, and it has some sort of compression
