I switched to a Verto engine from a non verto i had before. The new engine has electronic ignition also. I am using this diagram to wire it. I got the car going but after about 5 seconds the wire going from the positive terminal on the coil, to fuse #1 starts smoking and getting really hot. I am kind of stumped. Ive read all around  and i cant figure it out. I still have the old starter solenoid on there with a jumper on it to get power to the starter. If you guys need some pictures of the wiring i can get some on here.

Thanks

Where on earth did you get that drawing from?

Why is the starter connected to the coil?

Ok well that might be my problem lol. I found it on google, someone posted it on here ages ago. So no cable between starter and coil?

I can see why you need it.

Electronic ignition is a straightforward swap,

Bendix to pre-engaged should be simple - for me, join the big cables together at the existing solenoid, take a fused feed from the now spare solenoid down to the new starter - easy. I suggest like this because the inrush from pre-engaged is very much higher than a solenoid.
