I'd like to put my mini in storage for a few years to preserve it til I can get some time and space to properly work on it and get it back up to scratch..any suggestions for where I should try? I live in Wimbledon, so unfortunately everything around here is at a bit of a premium! I wouldn't mind travelling a few hours as I'd only want to check up on it every few months...

There's a thread somewhere on this site where someone has got a Mini in their living room. Not a option? :proud:

Unless you are really attached to it I would always consider selling it and then saving the storage money into a "re-buying" fund - cars don't like being stored and so when you get it out after 2 or 3 or more years you will find all sorts of things might need replacing - stuck clutch, hydraulics, bad earths, battery, tyres etc before you even start on bodywork and storage damage. I've resurrected a few cars in my time and it's  always fun, time and expense consuming.

It's not usually the way with classics but sometime it's good to let logic and economics into the equation - I have mates who have left cars in store for many years and paid a lot of money for the service only to find the car needs so much doing to it that they've given up and sold it on.

If you are going to store it for a few years, prepare for it as if you were going to store it for 10 years - oil / waxoyl stuff, inhibit water system (don't drain) put silicon fluid in hydraulics, mouse-proof it and inspect ever few months.

Storage space for a Mini should be relatively cheap, ideally you want a drafty barn with a concrete floor and a decent roof - I'd go googling agricultural storage facilities in your nearest bit of non-urban space :-)

Being serious, saying you stored it there - how would you deter mice? I got one that made a nest inside my air vent - pushed a load of foam or something out of it. We never found the mouse and I might be missing some padding/soundproofing from somewhere. I sealed all the holes in my garage but what do you need to safely bung up on the car to stop the little critters?

I have heard that they don't like mothballs or finely ground pepper. Some traps or maybe, if you have power, you can get electric mice deterants. Needs some googling :-)
Personally I would be taking the interior out and sticking it in my lof I think.
