If I recalll right the clutch plate / friction plate will need bedding in. Did you do this?

We bed ours in by starting the car and doing lots of gear changes, with the shafts out of course(so the engine was only turning the gearbox and pot joints

When you drive it hard through the gears it should lock up and not be smelling then which indicates slip? if you drive it up a hill in 4th gear and just put a small amount of pressure on the pedal does the engine revs rise?

Not sure it would do anything - clutches are miles different from brakes where it's necessary to actually get a transfer take place which needs lots of heat/ If you got a clutch as hot as a brake set up.....oooooooohhhhh

Yeah I know, but I was advised to do it when rebuilding my engine So just driven easy on the clutch the first 100 miles
We never did it on our race engines, but then again : they get rebuilded all the time
