Hi guys.

Was wondering if changing the engine size on the log book also changes it for insurance or would you have to put it down as a modification?

Of course it will. It's a modification from standard. You MUST inform your insurance otherwise your policy will be invalid.

It does not update on the records if thats what you mean, you will need to tell them, that said if its just making into another regular model it wont cost loads compared to say popping a FIAT coupe 20v turbo lump in for example! It wont list as a 1275 on go compare etc.

I have seen this question put like this before, I think the op is asking the same as the other one did regarding it coming up as a 1275 on websites etc after declaring it, it wont.

Id just ring around a few classic specialist insurers, stay with the same one next time if the renewal is fair.

What if I just list it as another classic mini which has a 1275 as standard? so don't use the reg just find the make and model

I don't understand this. How can one not use the registration number when insuring a car?

If you fit a 1275 engine to a 998 Mini it will still have the same reg. no. when you insure it. The question asked is whether the car has been modified in ANY way from the specification to which it was manufactured. With the 1275 the answer is 'Yes'.

It is what it is, that can't be changed.

You will, presumably, have it on a Classic insurance policy, so you just declare that a 1275 cc engine has been fitted and the premium will increase a bit.

There is no legal way around this if you want to stay properly insured.

 

You have also said that you are buying a car with a plastic flip front. Be sure to declare this as well because those flip fronts may (or may not) meet the safety criteria for insurers and the DVLA.
