Hi,

I have a 1995 1275 Mayfair auto. I want to either supercharge or turbo charge it for around 90-100 hp as from research that is all the standard ecu can handle before running lean.

My first though was to supercharge it as vmaxscart does a kit for £1850. My only issue with this is I don't know what to do about the kick down linkage as from speaking to Stuart at vmaxscart, the throttle body is relocated towards the front of the engine bay and the linkage come up past the inlet manifold. see photos below.

I would consider turbo charging but these don't tend to come in kit form. I'm reasonable handy on the spanners but fabricating is a bit of a stretch for me. I want to keep the injection and I want to keep the auto box as I actually like it (surprised me too).

Personally I think the auto struggles with the standard power of the 1275 spi. The clutch plates would last five seconds with that kind of power :)

Although doing a forced induction on an auto is technically possible, it's not advisable. Mainly because the auto box is a mechanical device which relies on the torque of the engine and speed to select the correct gear, if you start mucking about with the torque characteristics of the engine without redesigning the way the transmission responds then you may end up with a engine which actually wont go anywhere...

Modern auto's have buckets of electronics and ecu's to work this all out on the fly with forced induction motors.

Hi,

I did one a few years ago but changed to MPI system and its still working fine, only problem was air temp when climbing hills, but that is out here in south Spain very hot and running on 95, give it a go if you like the auto I'm sure you will find extra power fun.

Good Luck

Not wishing to contradict you because you're right but......

What you really need to be careful of is messing with cams and getting torque too high in the rev range so that the torque converter can never achieve enough torque multiplication to get the thing to lock up.

The mini AutoBox is surprisingly adjustable using the external governor rod.

Re the OP's question - do away with the governor rod and use a cable to the throttle quadrant - you must have the governor rod in operation.

Thanks all for the input. I never thought about changing the rod for a cable, great idea.

Does anyone know the differences in supercharger kit from vmax as between carb kit and spi the price is a lot more. I would imagine the inlet manifold is the same and that the throttle body would be relocated to the front just like the carb set up?
