Hi everyone, this is my first post here so please bear with me ...

I noticed the other day the vacuum advance on the dizzy had a completely missing tube, so here's my question, does anyone know how on earth the vacuum tubes are configured on a 1275cc 1992 model with carb & cat, no points or condensor either ?

The thermostat housing has two vacuum hoses, the left one (as you look at it) goes to the carb and the right one goes to the charcoal canister under the wing - is this right ? And if so where should the one from the dizzy vacuum go to - presumably through a T piece to either connection 1 or 2 ?  If anyone has or can get a photo of how it should be configured I'd be really grateful as the Haynes manual isn't helpful at all, it just says they're there but no pictures or description.

At present she's running pretty rough, I've had the car for only 3 months and it was like this (dizzy vacuum pipe missing) when I got her so I've got nothing to compare against.

Idling is random at best, seems to run on occasionally when the engine's turned off, when driving on motorways the car always feels as if it's 'pulling back' all the time rather than raring to go, and the other day (but it's not done it since), it was popping and backfiring on the overrun like mad. Also when pulling away from a standstill it's quite tricky as the engine wants to stall as you let the clutch in so you have to rev pretty hard in order to pull away successfully into a stream of traffic.

Things I've done since I got the car are : changed and gapped the plugs, the old one's were very sooty on cylinders 2 & 3 but fine on 1 & 4, the dizzy cap & rotor (no points or condenser on this one) were corroded but I've cleaned them up, as I'm trying to get back to original spec, I've removed the RC40 single box exhaust for the standard unit (sooooo much quieter on distance runs - you can actually hold a conversation !) and the K&N filter has also now been replaced with the stock Rover black plastic unit. I'm guessing however that if the dizzy vacuum isn't connected that the timing could be out and this could be my problem ?  So far none of this has made any difference, it's just the same as it was.

Any help or pictures / descriptions will be VERY gratefully received ! (I did wonder if because of the K&N filter & RC40 exhaust whether a previous owner had also changed the carb needle as well - and maybe that's the problem - maybe it's not set up correctly - no idea how I'd tell if the needle had been changed though)

Help !

Your problem is the vac advance isnt operating because the pipe isnt fitted. My car has 2 connections underneath the top rad hose/ thermostat.
The right one has a T piece for the canister and dizzy connections, then the other one has a connection to the carb

Hi again, I'm having problems finding the T piece I need for this, hose isn't a problem, but any idea where I can get the T piece from online and what diameter etc ?

Call mini spares

Or you could just connect the vacuum line to the carb instead of the thermostat unit!
