Hi;

I bought some Goodridge Braided Flexible Brake Hoses for my Radius Arms and have just noticed inside the packet a sticky label that says 1984 onwards ?@?£?$?%?

My Mini is an Austin HLE 1000 1982 (Y Reg) will these hoses fit?

What changes were made to the hoses in 1984?

The thread diameter looked smaller but just tried the thread that goes joins the Union of the Copper Brake pipe to the hub and it seemed to fit fine. The hose seem a fraction shorter and the nuts are slightly smaller than the ones on the old hoses however with the washers fitted they will hold in the bracket on the Radius Arm OK.

Can't remember what stall I bought them from will see if I took a photo?

Thanks

84 is the year with front discs as standard, and also spacered rear drums isn't it?

Maybe it's just a slightly different length?

I am having a related issue in that my garage are trying to replace a rear hose on my '69 hydro Cooper and the hoses coming from the factors (3 so far) are too short.

Evidently they are 200mm from metal end to metal end whereas the old one is 215mm.  According to Mini Spares and Somerford there's only ever been one standard hose from beginning to end of production and that's GBH250 so I can't see how any confusion is possible...

Hoses have been replaced in the past with no trouble I'm aware of, so how long are your hoses? (Stop tittering at the back).

Part of me thinks that 15mm is nothing, should it be a little taught at full suspension travel?

Car is stranded at garage at present so any ideas welcome!

Thanks

Latest is that difference may only be 5mm but they are unable to tigthen up the locking nuts with out stretching the hose.

Couldn't the old hose have stretched over time? Or should there be no tension in it at any stage?  Is it possible to relieve tension in the hose by lifting the trailing arm slightly while fitting the hose?

All a bit difficult to visualise without the thing in front of me!

Thanks, can I ask which hose you used and from which supplier?  You had no issues in fitting them?  Were they at all taught with the suspension arm down?

Sorry for the barrage of questions, but appreciate your answer...

yes you can lol.

goodridge sah0704-2rp is the part no.

i believe.

bought form my local supplier of mini goodies which is minimine in stoke on trent

states on mine 1984 on but they fitted fine.

as to being taught? no not really,  they are fixed at both ends so they will seem taught but they do flex. didnt have to stretch them or fight with them to fit.

biggest issue i had was getting the old ones off lol

hope this helps

That's useful thanks. All a bit odd, can't imagine how my car can be any different, there seems to be no variation in any model or year!

I've seen elsewhere the Goodridge pipes described as '84 on as well, that's the change point to front discs and 12" wheels but can't see how that affects the rear brake hoses!

An '82 City E?  My first car was an '83 City E; great car!

Solution found - there is a difference between wet (hydrolastic) and dry Minis in that on hydrolastic radius arms the brake pipe runs along the bottom of the arm, all others have the brake pipe running on top of the radius arm. There are two holes in the subframe where the hoses connect to the brake lines; a lower hole for wet suspension, and an upper hole for dry.

My garage have had a look and the hoses are indeed currently run from the top hole on the subframe to the lower side of the arm, which explains the problem.

That mistake goes back 30 odd years to the previous owner of the nearly new subframe which I rescued from a wet 1275GT that was written off after a front end smash.

Garage are now re-plumbing it correctly. :D

It seems so - stops okay which is the main thing!  Haven't had a look at it yet.
