Ok so I went to get a local quote for panel wipe and was told I wouldn't get much change from £40 for 5l, far too much in my opinion! So what's the cheaper alternative? My plan z is petrol!! Any suggestions that won't cause a reaction to cellulose primer and 2pack gloss?

I'll have a look for that on ebay tupers, unfortunately the drawback of living on a remote Scottish island is that couriers add on a good whack for transportation. Interested in the rubbing alcohol davie, what is that exactly? More used to it being in a glass to be honest! Could cheap vodka work?!

Eurocar parts are doing Pagid brake cleaner at £1.14 for a 500ml spray, it's even cheaper if you buy a dozen.

I can remember using petrol when we ran out of panel wipe or the boss would be slow in buying more and not getting any reaction. Smelled a bit though and we would leave it a while to make sure it was completely evaporated. I may just end up trying to buy a litre or so of proper panelwipe from a local bodyshop.

I did notice a spray can of degreaser in a household paint shop the other day but assumed it was a whitespirit type thing but may enquire further. Liking the brake cleaner idea!

I'll have a look for the brake cleaner, I cant order panel wipe from south as the carriage is a killer so any suggestion that is something other that a retail outlet will stock is good! I agree with what you say about the petrol, we never had any problems but I don't feel its something you could trust to not cause problems. Thanks for all the help folks!

Someone on the island must import acetone I would think. You might be lucky and get a 25litre drum, should be dirt cheap.

Ok I'll ask around for that. I'm sure I remember a readymix driver saying they used acetone to clean the concrete off the trucks. So acetone is good panel wipe then? Is this what wipe basically is?

Checked out ebay and as I thought nobody will post panel wipe to Scottish islands! Oh the joys of living on a rock!!

Petrol contains other lubricants that don't evaporate. If desperate paraffin doesn't have these additives, I suspect White spirit would be OK too.
