Hi guys,
I am very new to the whole classic mini scene, currently own a Mini ONE, but am currently in the market for a 'real' Mini. Bit about me, have just sat my A levels, just left school and awaiting uni next year.
Basically - this summer, I want something to spend some time on (I have a 13week long summer holiday) and so thought I may get a mini. Only problem is that I do not know a great deal about minis. Do you think that it is a good idea for me to get a mini, or am i better off getting something else?
Also, I cannot weld (do not have the skills or equipment) would this be a big problem with a mini? I know that they are prone to rusting in particular areas, and do not know if I could just get new panels and bolt them on, or if panels need welding, or if the rust can be repaired (with welding...)
Looks like a great forum guys,
JP

HI mate,
Get a mini! You will be fine, I got my 1st when i was 15, and being a girl i just got laughed at when i said i would do it up. Okay, i didnt do the welding but everything else is pretty easy, just get a good manual, haynes or something and get started, you soon manage to teach yourself something.
Welding is not that bad, if you can get hold of a mig-welder then get some scrap metal and try away, its the only way to learn.
Good luck and keep us posted on how you do.

To be honest that realy depends on how much welding needs doing and where you go.

oh right ok, not after selling my ONE just yet - just really want something to waste some time on over the summer. How much can i grab a mini for now anyway? not after anything special, just something that needs a good sorting out. As adelante says, i don't mind whippin out the haynes manual and stripping it down and repainting stuff, just that I don't have any particular skills with cars...

Cheers - how much do you think I should be looking to fork out for something in alright condition that needs some TLC and a bit of work on it?
Also - Dom - noticed that you were from Kent, we have many runs around these parts?

I live in Wigmore (Gillingham) - unfortunately don't have a classic Mini yet though. Do you know how much one would go for (that fit's my description)
Where do you do runs to?
