was just on his website and although iv used it in passing before iv never fully looked at it.

what a great resource!!!!!!. also they arnt many people who are willing to take their own time to make walkthrough videos. Was very impressed

on the engine number page i plugged mine in to see what it said 99HA53H and it came back with Source Vehicle :  Mini

Engine type & CC :  A+ 998 cc Transverse mounted
Fueling :  
Engine features : 
Lucas 16AC alternator with -ve Earth
1st              Alternative compression ratio
Mechanical petrol pump
ADO 20 Design variants
Gearbox features : 
Std. Ratio Rod Change gearbox with Pot Joints
3.105:1 Final Drive

 

what does Alternative compression ratio mean?

also is it likely to be leaded or unleaded?

Alternative is non standard... I believe it to be unleaded however i am unsure!!!

im putting the valvemaster in anyway just incase, i will rip the head off and check at some point anyway so im not too worried. i was more impressed with his website to be fair and this was just a side note lol wonder what non standard is? as in the figure

Thats your best option, if the head isnt unleaded, a machine shop can fit inserts and id also advise a light polish of the inlet and exhaust ports... Also fit new valve stem oil seals too ;)

i was going to do valve stem seals and recut/lap the valves in if they were unleaded. if not im tempted to have a go at fitting hardened seats myself, probally not though haha

i might polish the exhaust port but i was reading the visard manual and he recomends that unless your porting the head then polishing the inlet can be negative as the roughness atomises the mixture and so it burns better??

Just had a gearbox from for an engine I was repairing for a friend....Guessworks was very helpfull and posted it to Jersey.....it works great....

Also 1st Alternate Compression ratio means it's a high compression engine, also denoted by the H which follows the A53 in the engine number

 

An unleaded engine will be specifically started, eg look up 99HG30
