Hello guys,

 

Not too upset as this is the first thing to go wrong since i bought the min in October! Anyway, as seen in the picture the little hose has come out at the jet end which connects the float to the jet. I have tried getting it back in but it is a bit knackered and i don't see how it was ever held in there in the first place! Anyway, i see i can buy a new jet assembly on minispares for about £20 - just wandering if anyone has any input/help/tips or a guide on how to change the part over.

I am thinking this is the part i need, Waxstat type ( i don't know what that means?)

The waxstat has a small wax element (like a thermostat) which makes small alterations to the mixture based on temperature. Not really sure how it worked with a hot exhaust right below it. It's meant to improve fuel economy only slightly, and you are probably better off with the standard one. 

Saying that, the waxstat jet is the one which will fit directly on without different choke linkages. 

So yes...

Okay, got new jet fitted.

 

No leaks etc

 

Got car started but it ran very lumpy, choke had to be fully out to even stop it from dying.

 

I am pretty sure that the needle is sat in the top of the jet correctly and i didn't alter anything else?

 

Any ideas, surely the mixture etc wouldn't need changing for a new jet? or would it? i have a day off tomorrow so would like to get it sorted!

Is it something to do with centring the jet? sorry i am fairly amateur with carbs atm! 

 

as i said the car was set up on rolling road before and running perfect!

1983 HS4 998cc - running sweet as a nut and was set up perfect on rolling road recently.

 

small pipe connecting Jet to Float broke so i have changed the jet (correct one, wax stat type)

 

got the car running but now its really rough and have to have the choke fully out to even keep it going.

 

Is this normal, as in is there other stuff that needs re setting if you change the jet?

 

is there any easy mistakes to make when fitting new one, I'm 99% sure i did it correctly

Yes the mixture will be totally different with a new jet as the new jet is not worn so with the needle in the same position the mixture will now be weak, centring the jet is covered here.http://sucarb.co.uk/...ion-adjustments

If your certain the rest of the engine is tuned correctly, tappets,airfilter,plugs/points.timing, then the last thing adjusted is the mixture.

i know that it was perfect and set on a rolling road before hand.

Ideally when you change the jet you should also replace the needle too due to wear as Kernowcooper has stated. Then follow the tuning procedure and then the mixture can be set ideally on a rolling road. The fact that it has already been on a rolling road is now void as you have replaced a vital component.
