minispares hilo's are the only real mini adjustable suspension , all the rest are just copies and don't change the spring rate

i thought they all work in the same way, how come the copies don't change the spring rate like the originals do?

I just installed this kit on my '92 SPi: http://www.minisport...mini-sport.html

I suspect it pretty much contains the same set of hilos. Have no complaints so far.

As for the ride height I adjusted it to the lowest that I still felt was safe and with new cones it was standing quite proud. Running on 13" 175/50 wheels.

Right after installing: http://www.miniklubi...ile.php?id=1358

It has settled a fair bit within a few hundred kilometers, I can maybe get three fingers between the arch and the wheel right now. And as the cones settle more I need to go higher anyways - and there's plenty of thread to go that way - so I'm happy. And there is some thread to go down, this is what I settled on.

Can't really comment on how much lower you can go when coming from non-adjustable units, had hilos before this kit as well, but at least you can see what happens on 13" wheels with Minisport hilos and fresh cones.

Minispares ones (Hi-Lo brand) have different shaped trumpets which changes the spring rate as it has a different profile against the cones. I'm not quite sure how it works, but they are very well tested.

Both Minispares and Minisport trumpets have a similar concave top ends, which I guess would allow the rubber sort of wrap down more around the top and provide a bit more compression of the rubber, thus better suspension. But I fail to see how these trumpets could be worlds apart from each other, if at all indistinguishable.

And the original trumpets have a similar concave top end, so I guess apart from adjustability there isn't much of a difference in any of them.

Minispares does sell a low budget trumpet version with a flat top, which I guess is where this whole debate of copies and inferior suspension rates etc. originates.

The Mini Sport ones use a different sized knuckle joint, so any replacements have to come from there.
