Hi All

I have a mini fitted with the Minitastic race springs. I would potentially like to return it back to rubber.

Does anyone know if the minitastic adjustable "cones" will work with genuine rubber units? Or will i have to buy some hi-lo's?

cheers

Paul

Based on info from their website the springs have a larger diameter to the cones, which is why they supply their specific height adjuster unit. Looks like you'll need to buy some hi-los I'm afraid.  Why going back to rubber? Interested as I'm thinking of going springs.

Very wise to go back to rubber cone springs. They are the very best sort of suspension for a classic Mini.

Except for pure racing applications, it is hard to see what advantages there might be with coil springs. The disadvantages are obvious really.

I believe new Hi-Lo's will be needed when using rubber cone springs.

no you shouldn't need to replace the adjustable Hi lo's. they are the standard machined aluminium type and can be used with rubber or the minitastic springs. They are referring to the cast type as not being suitable for their springs.

I've had both rubber and the minitastic springs on the same set of the machined aluminium type.

Thanks all. Steve at minitastic has confirmed it'll convert back too.

To be honest the car just feels very, very odd. It seems like it has a lot of vertical movement (not what I'd expect on a supposedly high rate short spring with aftermarket dampers) almost like it actually has low rate springs but then if you hit and undulation or ridge in the road (e.g. change in surface height where our lovely utilities workers have backfilled a road surface after replacing a pipe) then the car feel like the suspension is striking through the body which i guess is not helped by the solid subframe mounts.

Its bad enough that you end up driving it at 15 mph on my village roads and still kangarooing due to the throttle foot coming on and off!

Does anyone near me (Cov/Leicester/Hinckley/Warwick) happen to have a mini on the fast road springs that I could have a ride in?  :mrcool:

What Springs did you have if I may ask? I am thinking of getting the Town ride springs which I guess are equivalent to the Soft springs of mini spares.  I will be using it on Malta roads, which are full of humps. Do you suggest them?

thanks
