Correct Engine Colour For A 72 1275Gt And Best Paint Please

Best Answer A-Cell , 25 June 2014 - 09:00 AM

Yes for originality. The whole engine and gearbox assembly was sprayed after assembly. BMC used green. Leyland introduced black sound 1970. Later (early 80's) this process was discontinued so the individual parts all had their different finishes. Some un painted like aluminium.
Personally I prefer the alloy parts like the gearbox and clutch housing in silver. Go to the full post

Sorry if this has been covered before but I really need help with positively identifiying what colour my 1972 1275gt engine should be and colour of all casings/rocker cover etc.I have traces of black paint on the gearbox and diff casings but my top end was a goldseal replacement so no original paint there !,I am keeping the car original so would really appreciate help and also what paint you have used e.g if black, should it be satin, matt or gloss ?,and spray or brush paint ?,thank you

Great. Also I'm sure you already know, preparation is the key to good paint retention. Degreasing well. Rust removal, etc
