My mini is fitted with an adjustable oil pressure relief valve and the oil pressure is around 50 when cold and 20 when warm at idle. I know this isnt high enough as the engine has just been fully rebuilt. Ive tried winding the valve all the way in but it doesnt seem to change, even though before it was fitted with a spring and ball bearing and the pressure was just 7 psi when warm at idle so its clear the adjustable one has done something. Am i missing something?
Cheers

If I was you I would put the original spring and plunger back in and see what happens then, said this before the factory fitted 5,000,000 of them and never had a problem, what you have in my humble opinion is a very effective downgrade that goes for the adjustable type and steel ball. If you oil pressures remains low after this your problem maybe elsewhere.

What oil is in it? I had a similar prob when I ran mine in with scrappy oil then put Millars and I got better oil pressure still drops to 20psi at island after a long run but I'm.told that's ok

You said you had the steel ball bearing? this is not the same thing as the plunger. This is the plunger type relief valve.

Here is a picture of how my engine was this morning after it gave up on me the other week with suspected head gasket failure just 1000mls into its rebuild.

The oil pressure you state at idle sounds ok. On idle, ours is 65 when cold and 20 when hot. Once on the move the pressure soon goes back up to around 55.

It has been like this for 3 years ( since we have had it ) and gives me no cause for concern.
