So, here I want to see the best and worst things about the Mini. Just somewhere in your list say what car in specific (doesn't have to be) you are talking about.

I am particularly interested in problems with the 1992 Rover Mayfair! (picture attached)

Thank you :)

it is! That's the best bit by far, its impossible to see a roundabout in a mini and not smile (unless you are my passenger perhaps). They are great fun cars and NOTHING drives like a mini. There aren't any downsides as long as you accept its an older car that will require regular maintenance to get the best out of it.

Pros: Fun to drive, mostly cheap on insurance  (£1000 fully comp for me) , parts are easy to come by, everyone loves a Mini

Cons: can be unreliable if not looked after, can be noisy, expensive if you don't do the work yourself

Rust is always a killer on Minis especially the later ones. Lots of areas to look out for (wings, under the headlamps, sills, scuttle..) You'll find lots on rust on this forum  O_O

1993 Rover Mini Rio

Cons - Rust Rust Rust! I'm told in the 90's they used thinner metal which rusted more quickly!

Cons - Used to be a rally/ hillclimbing car - Poorly looked after! Had to have an engine rebuild :/

Cons - They eat your money :P

Pros - The most fun satisfying car to drive!

Pros - People wave at you for no reason!

Pros - Brings a smile to my face every time i see it :)

An engineering course will help with the maintenance that Minis demand shall we say. With it being a 90s cars, you will need to call on your mates for help with bodywork!

My biggest worry of all is it rusting to pretty much nothing that I fall out while I'm driving. And also the fact that its costly to maintain. And the fact I can't do a lot of the work myself because I'm awful with cars.( at this moment)

Make sure its a good one to start with, then use shed loads of Dynax and it should be ok. My latest one has been mine for three years and with a bit of care has not deteriorated at all. Rust is a pain but if you offset the cost of periodic work against depreciation of a modern car it seems much better.

The one I am getting looks fine, but  there are places i couldnt check like underneath and near some parts at the front (partly because i cant get in there to see) and the keeper has had lots of work done to it and it looks good, but as it hasnt been used or touched for a year or so, i wonder if the workhe's done has gone to waste? even though rusting is a slow process
