Van Roof Smooth Or Ridged

Quick question for you chaps who no what there on about...I have a 1967 van and an 1983 van...both have a ridged roof...I am told me 1967 van should be smooth...can some one tell me when they changed from smooth to ridged please...also my 1967 has a flap which you can open...when did they start putting these in the roof

As far as I know ridged roof was introduced in around 1964.

Yea your 67 has the right type roof on it. Only the early ones had a smooth roof. `My dads 62 woody is a smooth roof.

The ridged roof was introduced January 1966   ;D

Thanks for the info..one last thing...did the little opening flap come as standard on the mini van roof

Don't think it came as standard. I think it was an extra.

The roof vent was a standard feature on all vans from 1960 to Mid 1971. There were items such as passenger sun visor, rear view mirror, passenger seat and saloon heater which were all optional extras from 1960 to September 1964 when these became standard. Interior courtesy light was also only fitted from September 1964 onwards.  :proud:

Correct. The roof vent was standard, carry over from A35 Van! As it was part of roof panel it would have made the logistics difficult if it was ordered as an option. Bolting in the other parts were easy.
The omission of these parts in the standard spec made the base price cheaper!
