Hi All,

Could anyone give me a rough idea of what they have paid in engineering costs when constructing a 1380 ? I have some estimates from one company but I wanted to check out what you guys had paid so I dont get ripped off ! I will of course get other quotes :(

Any recommendations of companies in the Hampshire area would be great too, the nearest mini specialist to me is Slark I think.

Work I am looking at getting done is;

Acid clean block
Offset bore & hone 73.5mm
Skim/hone block 25thou I think
Replace core/gallery plugs (gallery plugs to be threaded)
Replace cam bearings
Fit/supply centre main strap
regrind/balance/tuftride crank
Stress relieve and balance con rods
Beat me off !
oh and Fit pistons

Think thats everything !

Think you're looking around the 500 mark for that lot if not more..

not including pistons

Additional, if you're starting with a bare block, you maybe better off looking at an engine kit... may workout cheaper than getting all the bits done separately.

Thanks GW, didnt think of that !

Morspeed seem to do a good 1380 kit for £580 exchange which sounds quite tempting considering I only paid £60 for the engine :( :D

Morspeed's site has a pretty comprehensive list of prices and work.

I think for a 1380 engine kit it is 450 quid

Pre built it is 600 quid

I just built a morspeed 1380 engine kit, everything was nicely done, but you don't get a lot in the kits, you'll need to use your original engine as a donor for nuts, bolts covers etc etc

presumably when they say exchange you just give them the block, crank, pistons and conrods then ?

I think I am going to have to buy a bolt kit anyways as I didnt take it apart so dont really know which one goes where !

if you are not sure is not better to buy the kit pre-built?

And yes that is what they need in exchange

Where is the fun in that ! I want to build it myself. I could probably figure out which bolt goes where but to be honest I would rather use 'new' bolts when putting it together anyway.

the built kit does come with a new lightened flywheel though that the kit doesn't come with. I ummed and erred about the kit for a while and in the end just decided to let them build it, even though it would have been fun doing it myself.
