Bit of heat might help. Sometimes daily tightening of he puller

Have you removed the locating plate / washer after removing the bolt? If not be sure to remove this or it won't come off I forgot to and after removing this it popped off easy enough. Make sure the three bolts of the puller are in the same amount so that it pulls straight and not at an angle, then tighten the puller as tight as possible using an extension bar / scaffold if nothing else works leave the puller tightened overnight as apparently this helps

Yes taken the washer off behind the centre bolt and made sure puller bolts are all even, I will try heat or overnight option.

Thanks for your help

I've got a sure fire way (well, I've probably done it 10 or 12 times and it always works for me).

Use an old main bearing to lock the flywheel (they sit quite nicely in the starter housing) then buzz up your flywheel puller then start tightening more with a long bar until it falls off (watch your feet!).

As assistant will be required to help steady the engine whilst you are nudging the bar tighter.

Good luck!

Which part are you hitting? I usually hit one of the legs where one of the 3 bolts go through.

Hitting the main centre bolt, I'll try one of the 3

Make sure to lubricate the threads on the centre puller bolt and the push pad at the bottom to reduce the friction.  Use penetrating oil, not WD40, on the crankshaft.  Use something like this to hold the engine and flywheel while torquing:

Tighten it, give it a good few whacks,

Go and have a cup of tea, than tighten it some more.

Freeze spray can be useful on the crank tail.

Leave it over night, then tighten it, a few more good whacks.

It'll come off eventually

Leaving it overnight....... When they let go they cam come off with quite some force and travel some distance. I usually have the engine restrained with a chain/rope over a rafter - not taking any weight but short enough that the engine can't fall over or move very far. I then tie a rope through the puller and the starter hole so that if it does jump off when you aren't around it can't go too far and bounce off or into something expensive (like the bodyshell).

Might sound like overkill but it's not nice to come back to the garage in the morning to find that the flywheel and puller have bounced/rolled into the rear quarter and left a dent whilst the engine has fallen over with the recoil and is now sat on the dizzy leaking oil all over the floor.

I always crank it up - then leave it over night

hated them when worked on them as a mechanic - did loads - but always got a few that wouldn't come loose

& your in a hurry as the customer is picking it up that night

+ 1 on the force as they pop off - watch your fingers - nothing soft & fluffy in that area

I once had a Verto flywheel on a 1997 MPI which it took mew over 2 weeks to get off. I tried to tighten it a bit each day, used a blow-torch and 'Arctic Spray' alternately to heat and chill it, quenching it with cold water after each heat period. Eventually it just 'plopped' gently off, after two weeks of trying.

you get the ones that the puller is so tight - you are convinced they are going to release with a massive bang

then they release with hardly any noise at all

time is a great releaser ;D
