As title what are people's preferences and what do people think look best? Also where is it best to buy this stuff? It is rather expensive on minispares and on ebay as far as i've seen.

Rubber! The ribbed stuff 
Plastic looks horrible. I'm afraid I don't know where you get it from, but I know the rubber stuff can be bought from the roll from suppliers without 'scene tax'.
