Hi All,

Anyone fitted a Austin Allegro 1300 lump into their mini?

Seen a few kicking around going for a lot cheaper than 1275 but wondering if it just as easy as unbolting my 850 and putting the 1300 into place.

Will the gearbox fit?

Cheers

Matt

The 1300 Allegro's are 1275 standard, only a marketing badge by BL. box will be pot joints/rod change as far as I'm aware, so no issues there, have to work out what diff they had, it will fit just depends what diff ratio you want. Guessworks  here on TMF would have that info.

Been having a word around and the only thing it seems would cause an issue is the diff.

Hopefully Guessworks will make an appearance......

Found this on MiniMania

The differential on Austin 1300s is usually 3.65:1. The differential on Austin Allegro 1300s is usually 3.939:1. The 3.939 diff gives excellent acceleration but you find yourself in fourth gear by 50km/h with 10 inch wheels,

I had a MG 1100 engine and diff once when my cooper cracked a piston, and it certainly shot away off the mark but 60mph was screaming its head off.

So looks like a diff ratio is on the cards.

I have done this exact swap and while it is extremely fun driving a mini around town with that diff, open road driving is painful on both your ears and your engine.

Swap the diff for a 3.44 and you are going to love the extra 400cc
