Had a few problems with my mini recently, it died this morning and won't start, there is now a puddle of a mixture of oil and fuel under the car, I have put this down to the fuel pump, can anyone confirm that or have any other ideas what it could be?

Unless both your fuel pump is dead and your engine sprung a leak, that sounds like two different issues.

How much fuel is there?

There's allot of fuel in there, I always run the oil just below max anyway, so if all of the fuel from the pump was going into the block i assume it's coming out of the over flow hole in the fuel pump

if the gasket on the block side of the pump has gone you will leak oil, if the diaphram in the pump has gone you will get fuel into the oil as well. have a feel about under the fuel pump if you get oil out from under it i would get a new one and new gaskets anyway. they are not too expensive to buy.

If you suspect fuel in the oil, DO NOT start the car as you have a nice incendiary device waiting to go off!!

 

Drain the oil and dipose of it properly. I can't stress enough how careful you need to be doing this.

Haven't start the engine, got my da to tow me home, have now taken the carb off and the manifold, have now drained the oil, just need to remove fuel pump, oil is full of fuel

Right taken old fuel pump off that's fine no splits in the diaphragm, could it be the piston rings?

fuel pump is normally the issue, if you have that much fuel from the rings, then your engine is ready for a reduild

If there was a fuel leak somewhere down the back of the engine, then it is likely that it would collect some of the oil and muck that is undoubtedly lurking behind the engine - just a thought for all the people who think they have to be two separate problems.
