Was out and about today, got stuck in some traffic, Mini got a little bit hot but not overheating, got back home and parked up, just as I was walking off a load of water suddenly dropped from underneath the front of the car.

Probably about a pint and a half worth. When I opened the bonnet up I could see the subframe under the radiator was wet, I then touched the water on the floor and it was completely cold, so I am unsure as to where its come from. Surely if it had just come out of a hot radiator then the water would be hot?

Anyone had anything like this happen before?

I wonder if the thermostat is opening?

Was the water stone cold?

The water was stone cold, but the radiator was hot. If it was the thermostat surely the radiator wouldn't heat up?

Not really. It seemed like clear fluid.

And, is there coolant in the radiator, or just neat water?

To the best of my knowledge there's coolant in the radiator (it was done by me, garage replaced water pump back in February and refilled the system then. Told me it was coolant). When you look in the radiator it has a greenish tint to it.

What causes it to collect on your subframe? Is it too much coolant in the radiator or is it that it just gets a bit hot?

it's not from the radiator its when i drive through puddles it dips up around the edges so it creates a wall and when i park on drive facing down hill it all flows off :)

Well it had been washed this afternoon, but I drove about 20 miles then, so I would have assumed that it would have all ran off by then, but maybe not then.

Guess this is just something not to initially worry about but just keep my eye on.

If the coolant level hasn't dropped, then its probably just from washing it!

Coolant has a fairly distinctive smell and taste
