About 5 years ago, I made the silliest decision I've made which was to sell my first car.

At 17, I bought a 2000 Rover Mini Cooper Sport (W768 TFR) which I used when learning and for the first 3 years as my daily runaround.

Financial problems forced a sale and now, 5 years later, I'm in a better place and looking to buy a new weekend /project car.

In an ideal world, it would be great to hunt down my old car and carry on with the works I had started. However, this may be unrealistic and I'll be looking to buy another :)

I wondered if anyone had any success stories on hunting down an old car and could offer advice. If anyone has seen it/owns it.. Any information you can provide would be excellent.

Here's hoping he's still going strong.. See you all at the shows!

well, your old mini is currently sorn, has been since 17 june 2009, so it hasnt been scrapped officially

you can actually write to the dvla to find out the current owners details but only if

Why you might make a request

‘Reasonable cause’ can include:

  • finding out who was responsible for an accident
  • tracing the owner of an abandoned vehicle
  • issuing parking tickets
  • tracing people responsible for driving off without paying for goods and services
  • tracing vehicle owners suspected of insurance fraud

it does say "reasonable cause CAN include" so i suppose it doesnt mean it is limited to these reasons

good luck aswell

Hello and good luck looking for your old Mini.

Just to add to the above, the DVLA will supply details of all previous keepers when you are the current registered keeper, I have done this a few times myself. Not sure if they will do the same for you once you are no longer the registered keeper but it is worth a try?
