Have you tried heat? If you can't shift it with heat and a good quality scissor type then I'd go with the above suggestion and cut it off.

If you can get it off the car to work on it on the bench I'd always go for that option as I'm an old fart and working on the bench is so much easier.

Paul.

I.cut mine off leaving a bit inside the top arm and uses a huge clamp and it popped out. Have more to hold and play with once away from hub.
I used 2 old sockets either side.

This would seem like my best option but have to admit I'm nervous about this, worried that I'd still be stuck with it in

How easy is it to take off the arm with the hub? If it's easy then I can leave the ball joint on there, it's the driveshaft I'm trying to get out

Top arm might need cone compressor unless you have hi.los.
With it cut off use socket either side with a clamp and wack the taper and should come out.
All part of the fun lol

Ok, don't have a cone compressor so that's no good.

My worry is with the word 'should'. Excuse my ignorance but why would it come out any easier after I've busted three separators that also should have got them out?

Due to the fact you have the arm with room to hit through the hole not down with the hub there. I had to do this both sides. Sorry to say should.
This way made it easier for me. I even took back the fork and scissors back and got them exchanged!

No need to apologise lol, think I'm just getting frustrated. I genuinely think that if I cut through this I'm stuck with it in there. Don't have the money to get a cone compressor so I can see it sitting there with half a ball joint hanging in it

Appreciate that. Gonna sleep it on and decide what to do in the morning.

With any luck it would've fallen out all on it's own by then lol

Thanks for the help

Where in the country are you based? You should be able to find another member on here who is close to you that will lend you a cone compressor tool.

I have a small 12 ton shop press for just such jobs. If you can cut it out and leave a bit sticking up (as previously suggested) you can take it to any small garage and pay them a fiver to press it out for you - that way you won't damage anything by whacking it.

Paul.

Should take a photo and post it. Other than that I've seen someone smack the top arm before to elongate the tapered hole. That seemed to work.

Thanks for asking but not had a moment to try anything. Hoping the weather stays clear tomorrow and then I can get back to it

Finally got it out!!!

Father in law helped out and adapted the fork style splitter, apparently the shallower this is the easier it will go it, so we ground it down and it worked.

Still wasnt easy and took a couple of hours, I guess everything together worked.

Will make sure there is plenty of copper grase befroe it goes back in! Thanks for all your advice guys
