hello all

well today i got my new engine running properly for about the first time. i'm very nervous as its my first engine build. i was about ready to test out the clutch so i bled it, i could then hear a chattering coming from the clutch side and it goes away when you push the clutch pedal down. i have fitted straight cut gears and an ap clutch plate and orange diaphragm. the clutch is also very juddery when you start to let it out i put this down to being new

once again any ideas ? thanks lee

phew i was wondering if i had built something wrong as i forgot to put the bloody washer on the crank under the timing cover already causing the pulley to rub so confidence is not high lol

well the chattering goes when you put the clutch down any ideas why?

thanks guys

When you put your foot on the clutch you are disengaging the drive to the drop gears so they aint gonna chatter then! :D

if you have a slightly lumpy cam it will also exacerbate the noise, as the tickover isn't smooth and therefore the gears will chatter even more.

Get it set-up correctly ASAP and you should find the chatter more or less settles down. Mine chattered quite loudly (SC box and drops), but after a tuning sessiong with AC Dodd at ML Motorsport the noise all but disappeared.

Are you talking about the oil flinger? I hope you did put it in after you found it wasn't there.

The orange spring is savage, it's probably juddering because your ankle hasn't adapted to it yet. Just be glad it's not a double grey, you end up with Popeye's legs using that thing.

yeah dan the oil flinger dont worry its in now, and yes its a bit of a grabby clutch but i wanted something that would grip hard hoping this engines gonna be pretty fast 100bhp maybe

got a 286 cam so yes its pretty lumpy and 1.5:1 roller rockers so idle is a bit of a problem haha

all good fun

thanks for all the help

another question i'm going to finally try and sort the mixture as best i can and timing tomorrow and take it for some propper drives but how long should i run it in for?500 miles? i was thinking of doing a few oil changes over a 500 mile period and then taking it to be set up roperly on the rr already i can feel its pretty quick and thats only taking it round the block

lets hope the clutch gets less grabby its like a paddle clutch at the moment haha

thanks lee
