1993 Japanese Mini Spi AUTOMATIC

On the way back home yesterday evening, while cruising at around 50km/h, the car started sputtering/misfiring and finally quit. Pulled over, fired her back up and on idle seemed to occasionally misfire and then the RPM would drop below 500 or 600RPM and the engine would quit. I started her back up again and If I revved it up and stayed on the pedal at 2000rpm then at 3000rpm etc and it would run but still misfire a bit. As soon as I let go, the engine would occasionally drop below 500rpm and quit again. All fuses are good. Gas is still at 3/4 tank.

I went for a walk and let the car sit with the battery disconnected (hoped to reset the ecu). After an hour I tried to start her up again. This time it would idle alright, however when driving the engine would sputter over 3500RPM. So.. Car was driveable again, but only if I stayed under 3500RPM. Seemed like it was in some kind of "limp-mode" or the timing advance wasn't working at high revs? I was able to drive her home at low speeds.

The problem is, now it's morning and I've driven to work and had no problems at all. Started fine and drove normally over 3500RPM, even on the highway.

Thanks again,

Keishin

Sorry missed this, did you resolve the issue?
Sounds like ignition issue; low tension wiring, plug leads or the ignition coil.
